Calli had Natalie on May 8th. She was born at 1:23 am weighing 7 lbs. 13 oz. and she was 21 in. long. Tim and I got to be there because Casey is still in training for the National Guard Reserves. Doug, Sherrie, her Mom (Jerry) and Brittany along with Casey's Mom (Judy) and his sister Sara were in the room when she was ready to push.
They induced Calli at 5 am on Thursday, May 7th and broke her water at 7:30 am. Because her water had been broke for so long she started running a fever of 104*. They started giving her antibiotics through her IV. Natalie's heart beat kept dropping. Once Calli started pushing Natalie's heartbeat was to high for too long. Calli pushed for almost an hour and a half. The doctor told her that there would be a respitory therapist called in so they could check Natalie when she came out because of the elevated heartbeat.
When Natalie finally came out the cord was wrapped around her neck once and she was blue. She wasn't breathing. They started yelling for everyone to get out. Sherrie and I had each been holding one of Calli's legs while she was pushing. We stayed where we were and Tim stayed too, everyone else left the room. They called code red and more doctors came in the help Natalie. I could see her and she was white as a sheet. I was worried that she was not going to make it. Calli's doctor was trying to keep her distracted. Tim was watching the doctors work on the baby and looking really worried. Then they called code blue and now there were 12 people working on the baby. Calli kept asking why Natalie wasn't crying. They brought the crash cart in but didn't need to use it. They had inserted a tube down her throat to breath for her. They told Calli that they were going to take her to the nursery and that as soon as Calli was downstairs she could see her. Aparently they sent a nurse out to the waiting room to let everyone know that they would probably have to lifeflight the baby to another hospital when Calli was downstairs. By the time Calli came down about an hour later, Natalie was doing better and they didn't have to take her to another hospital. Natalie did have to stay in the NICU the entire time she was there. Calli really struggled with that.
Natalie improved so much faster than they thought she would. At first they were saying that she would have to stay longer than Calli. She was able to take her home on Sunday when she left. She is doing awesome now. Calli is loving being a Mommy. Calli moved out the week before she had Natalie. She is in a house in Lehi so she is not very far away. We love that she is so close and that they are both doing well. She is coming over today to hang out after church. :)
Casey will be done with training the end of July or the 1st part of August. Calli is going to fly to Georgia to see him next month. She is excited to introduce Natalie to Casey. Casey is very excited to meet Natalie. :)
We hung out with Calli yesterday and here are a couple of pictures of Natalie just chillin on my lap. :)
